The Verdict

There is a blockage. However, it is very deep inside the liver and, according to GH's oncologist, it cannot be reached surgically to be corrected.

So we're in a holding pattern.

GH's oncologist is looking into options for us. We will meet with her next Wednesday to see what she proposes. She mentioned something about an exterior drain (?), but we're not really sure what the deal is. We were both in a bit of shock when we heard the news, so didn't think to ask coherent questions. We do have her cell phone number and may well be using it this weekend once we pull together a list of questions.

Guess you'll have to keep those fingers, etc. crossed, if you don't mind. As GH said, "This can't be the end of our story. It just can't."

So some bad and some good--a single blockage is much better than a failing liver. My husband did have a drain that essential rerouted something...it was sort of ugly, but not, in the grand scheme of things, a big deal. Its insertion was pretty minor and it was remarkably effective for a while (in his case, there were multiple blockages).
Still holding you in the light.

So glad to hear from you. Sounds like the classic good news/bad news. I'm sure there is an option for you. Meanwhile, try to enjoy your weekend.

I'm thinking of you and GH.

Our mother had two or three bags that had tubes to drain her liver and gall bladder. She would hide them under her clothes and dump them out when they got full. I don't know if that is the same thing.

Hoping and praying for you guys.

I was lead to your blog from a link on another blog, and have been reading your blog from the beginning for the last 3 days. I'm hooked! Usually, I'm strictly a "lurker", but I want you to know that I'm sending good thoughts/vibes/prayers your way. BTW, I love your writing style, and can SO relate to the frustrations of babies who don't sleep!

still hoping for a reasonable option, and that all of you can get some rest this weekend even while in the stressful waiting zone.

I'm glad its not the worst news, although it is a big ambiguous. I'm really hoping they can deal with the blockage and make him more comfortable, bring down this levels.

I am so relieved it is not bad news. I hope they will find a way to get the surgery done and that your husband will get better. Thinking of your family

Oh, the holding pattern. When you think the two options are good news or bad news yet you sort of get middle of the road keep me hanging news. Well, better than all bad, and nothing bad (relatively speaking) has happened yet.

I will continue finger and toe crossing, positive vibing, and praying for you all.

Sorry I've missed all these posts. Of course you knew I was out of town at my grandmother's funeral. I got to see cousins who I'd not seen since we were teenagers, so that was good at least.

Thinking of you and saying a prayer for all of you. Hoping for good news between now and Wednesday.
