- Dinner with friends, continued joy with reconnecting, gratitude at friendships that withstand time and distance
- Sleeping in, lazing around, enjoying a quiet morning to myself before Maddie and Riley came home from Moo and Otro Ba's
Lows
- Annoying, frustrating, disappointing, potentially insurmountable news about the condo buyer's demands post-inspection; looks like the sale will go through, but not before I feel nickel and dimed, dried out, used, spit on, and kicked
- The whining. Oh, the whining! Even when they are saying something nice, they whine! I pretend not to understand whining, and then they sob and cry, and I ignore them and it goes on for an hour and our morning is ruined (Riley), repeat for a ruined afternoon (Maddie)
- THE WHINING IS KILLING ME
- Still feeling less than 100% healthy
- The fact that Oregon does not sell my go-to cold medicine because so many losers were using it to make meth. I might have to take a trip over the border to Washington to stock up.
UPDATE: Just broke one of the dinner plates from my wedding china while doing the dishes! Add that to the lows. Boo. Off to bed now.

Oh no. Get into bed and pull the covers up high. Fingers crossed for a full night's sleep.
Well, it's nice to know that Oregon has some similarities to Mexico in terms of cross border pharmacy runs -- after family and friends, my favorite thing about going to America is going to the drugstore. Shelves and shelves of lovely over the counter formulas. How hopeless is that!
Hi Snick... coupla things...
Get this book from amazon and read it pronto: "1-2-3 Magic ~ Effective Discipline for Children Ages 2 through 12" by Thomas Phelan. Simple, easy, gentle method of discipline, and it works -- no screaming, no spanking, and no more ruined mornings or afternoons... just sanity. The perfect time to start this approach is now, right around 3 years old. It's worked like a charm with my almost-five-year-old since he was a toddler.
Oregon is smart for banning cold medicine products with pseudoephedrine (brand name Sudafed). You may recall (or I may not have even told you?) that it was the OTC drug responsible for my heart attack at age 37 (I was totally healthy with no cardiac risk factors, and ended up needing a triple-bypass). I beg everyone who will listen to me not to use it -- and they're usually pretty shocked to hear it. It's very dangerous stuff and it should be banned nationwide, IMO. (It's already banned in several countries.)
If your potential condo buyer is a homeowner and you know a few facts about him, like his full name and the town he lives in, you might find valuable data about him at www.masslandrecords.com. In situations like this, information is power. :-)
Much love and hugs...
I'm with you on the whining. I simply cannot stand it. And having one whine to no end in the morning, then one in the evening = no fun at all. Hopefully you''ll have a day full of highs tomorrow!
Must agree with Crash Course Cardiologist- 1-2-3 Magic is fabulous. I haven't used it with my kid (she's 6 months), but did use it when I was teaching. The great thing about it is that it helps minimize power struggles and helps me maintain my cool in those trying situations. It's a powerful tool when used properly.
And www.replacements.com is a good place to look for the place that got broken. . . . .

So sorry about the whining. I'm right there with you with my 3 year olds too. I actually just requested the 1-2-3 Magic book one of your readers suggested. Have you heard of swaptree.com. A GREAT site for trading books. I found two copies there. Good luck with the condo. We just sold our house in Medford, and the list after the inspection was daunting. But remember, buyers ALWAYS ask for way more then they REQUIRE to buy the house. Stand firm, and just give enough to make sure the sale doesn't fall through (I know, easier said than done). Good luck!!!!!
I have a prescription for sudaphed, and live in portland. I can probably hook you up if you are in a bad way.
sorry, didnt see the previous comment about the dangers of sudaphed.. how frightening.
Not to advise you really but to share one thing that worked for us at that early whining phase (now the ignoring works) was to only answer whining in "mummy opera voice." It sounds crazy but it really turned the dynamic around and made us both laugh.
Just ugh. Glad you're all feeling better, though!
Ebay is another great place to find that odd replacement dish. It is amazing how many new in box dishes are available for sale at really great prices. I have found replacement dishes for myself as well as filled in for missing pieces on several out of stock patterns for friends.
Sorry, that stinks. I hope your day gets better.
