"Earth's Last Eden"? Really?

I've never watched Survivor, but I might have to start next season. It was just announced that Survivor: Gabon—Earth's Last Eden will begin filming in late June. Having spent three years there in the Peace Corps, I know from personal experience that Gabon is a gorgeous, lush, tropical country. But Earth's Last Eden? I'm not so sure. Guess the producers need some media hype to get everyone excited about a country virtually no one in the U.S. has ever heard of.

As for Jeff Probst's comment in the EW article that "no one has really hung out there," what the hell is he talking about? He must mean no one from the Survivor crew, because plenty of other people have hung out there and could give him some ideas on what to expect in terms of wildlife. Sheesh, Jeff, do a little research already.

On the subject of reality TV, my in-laws are in town this week for my father-in-law to attend a medical conference. They are coming over tonight to see the kids. And me, I guess. I might have to miss Idol! For the second week in a row! Tragedy.

Oh hon, you know what our friend Jeffy means when he says "no one". He means none of the IMPORTANT people, like hollywood stars, directors, PR people, models, you know - the creme de la creme. The regular, everyday people aren't IMPORTANT. I thought you knew!

Don't worry - now that our friends at Survivor have "discovered" Gabon, it won't be long before they ruin it. Can't wait. I bet the people of Gabon can't wait, either.

Ummm..... come on Snick, don't you have a TiVo? You MUST get one. I find that I like to watch TV on my time not the networks. And I get less frustrated when the kids need me during one of my few favorite programs.

Glory Laine--

Nope, no TiVo. Pathetic, huh, that I'm so cheap that I won't get TiVo. Might be time to reevaluate the budget :).

Trish is right.

My in-laws are not in our lives. We haven't seen them since November. I'm having surgery in June and my mother's reasoning is that they will not contact me before then because I may ask them to do something.

Pathetic, huh?

I hate to admit that I am terribly anxious for idol tonight, what with all the Jeff Archuletta controversy this week. I can't believe I feed into this stuff. And you have to get tivo. It's so worth it.

Snick...do this one thing. It's worth a try and may end up being a bonding experience....ask them to watch it with you!

I've had fam and peeps drop by when one of my favourite shows was on, and I'd just leave it on. It makes for more conversation! (especially strained relationships)

Top Chef being left on during a visit here once ended up becoming an end of season party for people I wouldn't have normally "Top Chef Partied" with.

You can always go watch it on youtube again. :o)

I agree, you NEED TiVo! I'm a single mother on a tight budget also, but it's so worth it. I can enjoy Idol after my daughter is in bed and not miss half of it if she wants "one more story."

Love the story of your Mother's Day! You're so famous... ;-)

I think I might have to kill you if you drag me into another reality series. Though Gabon does sound interesting.

I can still remember a night with Jrex's parents when we went ahead and watched Heroes anyway. Dad K left and went to sleep. Poor Mom K kept trying to get it, but it was impossible without having watched the previous shows. I think it would be easier for your in-laws to watch Idol!

Ohh...you said you're behind on email, but I'm coming your way next week. I'll send you an email about it. Maybe we can grab lunch.

I'm new to your blog - heard about it from a friend. I am Korean-American and I completely understand your mixed feelings about your in-laws! I hope that the future brings more mutual understanding bc I can tell from your posts that there is a lot of love coming from both sides despite all of the pain and hurt.

OMG! Gabon! I will totally be watching along with you...!! Though... I agree he needs to do his homework. A country the size of Colorado doesn't really seem remote. Especially with a chichi capitol like Libreville-!

Eden? Sure, if they mean ebola scares and worms that will burrow their way into your body if you forget to iron your underwear.

But I will be watching right along with you, even though I haven't watched Survivor in years.

I'm embarassed to say it, but I looooove Survivor. I was even watching it while in labor with my daughter. It is a ridiculous show, but it's escapism at its best. I will be loving it if you do opinion updates for it, like you do for Idol!!

Hi, I was excited to read your post this morning as I too was a PCV in Gabon. I was hoping they would go durning the rainy season but my guess is they wont because they will not get their vehicles anywhere. I don't usually watch survivor but I probaly will this time and I forgot all about having to iron your underwear.
