I don't really know what to say other than that; it's too soon for me to tell exactly how she will help me. But I feel very comfortable with her, and I think just having a sounding board will be great. She said some things to me about being kind to myself, recognizing that I'm doing the best I can, that I can't be perfect and that I have a lot on my plate. I know all of this. But it doesn't hurt to hear it from someone besides the little voice in my head, especially since I often have a hard time listening to the voice in my head when it's saying positive things. I stand at attention for all the negative stuff, but the positive stuff often goes in one ear and out the other.
I practiced kindness to myself last night by doing nothing during Idol except watching Idol. Oh, and drinking hot chocolate. I figure that's allowed. It felt good. We'll see if I'm able to kick the lingering guilt I have about doing "nothing" for two hours.
Tonight I have Frantic Running Around on the agenda, I'm afraid. My neighbor's mom died, and the kids and I have been taking care of his cat while he's home dealing with Death Stuff.* He should be home today or tomorrow, so I want to stop at the store and pick up a few things to put in his fridge, and a card, too. So the kids and I will do that after work. I also need ice cream since a certain friend of mine has been talking about Häagen-Dazs an awful lot and has given me a craving that Just Won't Quit. Then I have to do Massive Amounts of Laundry because I'll be out tomorrow night with my girlfriends having dinner at Catch for Restaurant Week. Woo-woo!

i'm really happy to hear that the meeting went well. i agree that sometimes you need to hear the good stuff from a neutral 3rd party to really "hear" it and accept it.
good for you for chilling out with idol and hot cocoa. i'm sure the ice cream will be a welcome addition to the fridge this week as well... at least, it always is in my house! :)
If you are going to cave go for the Haagen-Daz Sticky Toffee Pudding, you will be in ice cream heaven!!!!
HOLY COW! You linked me...! I feel so special. You know I consider you like a celebrity in this blog world. I feel so darn honored. And I'll admit to you (I admitted it to J too) I hate our new book pick. AHGHGHGH!
So funny about the Haagen Dazs ...I went to buy some today at the store and they were out of my flavor. What the heck!!!!!
I'll be heading off to the microwave to heat me up some hot chocolate right about . . . .now. It just sounded too good to pass up.
oh, restaurant week, i forgot about it!
my husband bought me a self-help book on pessimism, but i can't even bring myself to agree with the author about anything, i'm so firmly entrenched in my negative thinking.
i hope you have a nice time at Catch, it looks delicious.
I'm so glad the meeting was successful.
have your ever tried creme brulee flavor? it's very very awesome. sometimes difficult to find at grocery stores
You are a very strong woman and mommy. Your kids are better for it and they will realize that some day. You do need to take time out for you but I understand how ery hard that can be sometimes. I agree with the rest, ice cream and a good show - great combo. Take the time to relax and watch it in peace. You are worth it!
So glad the social worker was useful. That's really good news, and the day can only be improved by ice cream!
Oh! I just went to Catch recently. Liked it a lot - I'm vegetarian (and don't eat fish) and I recall that they were really great about that. I think I had a risotto and that they left the seafood out of for me. Yum. Have a great time!
All this talk about ice cream makes me want Toscanin's Burnt Carmel.
Very happy that you are hearing it from a 3rd "professional" to be kind, partient and gentle to yourself. I know you hear it from us but the in-person affirmation is useful. We all appreciate the reinforcement of our message to you - you are doing an amazing job. Now, please go eat some ice cream for all of us.
I'm so glad the first meeting went well! It is SO NICE to have your feelings validated!
