Idol Top 10: My Take (It or Leave It)

[This week I will try to use a consistent voice. My post about Idol last week was an editorial nightmare!]

Ramiele: Snooze. But at least your hair didn't confuse me (although your outfit did). I think (hope?) we'll be saying goodbye to you this week.

Syesha: You keep getting better and better, and your elegant performance this week surprised me. Nice work! And I love your  hair.

Chikeze: You've got charm, but frankly I think you're the weakest singer among the men. You're in danger. I predict the bottom three for you tonight.

Brooke: I thought the song was great for you, and you are just so genuine. And pretty! I feel like we could be BFF. Shoot me an e-mail and I'll tell you how to find me on Facebook.

Michael: Your performance made me forget the performances that had come before you. And dude, you are just so HOT.

Jason: The pants, the pants, the pants! They are still too tight! You are the male version of Brooke, though, with your honesty, charm, and genuine-ness. Was it just me or was there something weird going at the the beginning of your song, though? Until you started grooving with the Spanish, I had a hard time hearing your vocals.

Carly: You appeared to have a stick up your ass during that entire performance. I'm sorry; that must have been very uncomfortable.

David A.: I love you, I really do. But your youth is starting to show and dude, you need to drop the goody-two-shoes routine. Let your hair down! Do something crazy! Drop an f-bomb! (OK, maybe not the last one, but you get the idea.)

Kristy: That song makes me feel a little ill, and I think it was manipulative of you to choose it. It was a fine performance, but as boring as usual.

David C.: They saved the best for last this week. You were amazing. You were so amazing that anyone reading this who did not see it needs to check it out. Thank you, YouTube:

EDITED: I was so curious about this version of "Billie Jean" that it finally occurred to me to do some sleuthing about Chris Cornell. You all probably know this already, but Chris Cornell was the lead singer of Soundgarden and Audioslave. His June 2007 solo album includes his acoustic cover of "Billie Jean." Here's a version from YouTube:

hey.. thanks for finding the youtube clip and saving me some time. i loved your recap.. *chuckle*.. i give you a lot of credit for being able to recap it after the show.. i tend to forget all but the really good performances within minutes.

i had a great time last night.. it was fun watching the show with someone who gets it. the ice cream was also enjoyable.. although the crunching was a problem.

i realized this morning that i didn't give you any $$ for the pizza.. doh.. let me know how much i owe you.

we should definitely do that again.. pjs and all!

Loved your recap. Perfectly said on all counts.

Wow. To have found somebody I completely agree with regarding American Idol.

If Brooke contacts you, can you let her know that I want to be BFF, too?

You are so right. I hope Ramiele's going home too (actually I wish it was Kristy--to pick that song! Aargh!) And David A. needs to do something interesting or I'm over him. I'm actually considering buying D. Cook's song on iTunes because it was just. so. good. Actually I think I will wait for his album!

You crack me up!!! Great recap and once again, agree with you on every point...even David A. But how I still love him so! I want to freeze time so that he can date my 15 year old daughter! :)

Okay so I don't watch Idol (never have... :-)) but I did watch that clip. That was amazing... I love talent that makes you shiver a little...

Dave Cook has finally knocked David A. off his DialIdol.com throne... (This is the first week David A hasn't been predicted as the highest vote getter.) I love him... I was impressed by Michael again but not surprised that he had another good Queen song performance... his voice is made for Queen...

It looks like either Jason or Chikezie are leaving although possibly Ramiele... they should be the bottom three according to Dial Idol.

As Simon said Kristy was smart to pick that song... no redneck on Earth was going to let her get voted off singing that unless she pulled a Roseanne Barr... It was a pretty boring and uninspiring performance of it despite that... she has deserved to leave the last two weeks... she is smarter than she looks.

Thanks for posting the clip-I missed Idol last night. David Cook-wow. Gutsy choice, and a great interpretation. The song is a little dark, and he really brought that out. Love it!

coming out of lurkdom to say: I could not agree with you more in regard to Michael (DROOL) and the song that Kristy chose. That song makes me crazy. And I think when Simon kept saying how "clever" a choice it was, he was trying to say "manipulative" to the voters... Kinda doubt they'll get it, though.

You're right on target, Snick. I was watching the cowgirl sing and thinking, what a slick little chick. I thought she was stinky. But David? Yeoow, that was great. He's kind of goofy-looking (especially that baby picture), but he's got "star" written all over him.

Wish I wasn't on dialup so I could watch that David performance again. It gave me chills. He's got some serious ballage.

PS Here's my friend Dan's take on it -- very similar to yours: http://steelkaleidoscopes.typepad.com/steel_kaleidoscopes/2008/03/american-idol-3.html?cid=108348652#comment-108348652

Dude, yeah. I am with you 100%.

I think we could become great friends, based on your recap (which was the same as my mental one).

I agree almost 100% with your critique. I just don't really see the charm with Jason. The pants and hair get in the way. The song was also boring.

I wanted Kristy off last week. She is cute, but not great. I did like her better this week, but I don't really like that song.

I live in Utah. I started watching Idol because of your links to David A. Then I got hooked (thanks for finding something for me to do on Tuesday night) But he will NEVER lay an F-bomb. I am 99% sure he is of the local origin and thats just not going to fly. Unless he decides to go completely rebellious. And I totally agree, he was solid, but not great last night.

Re: Michael? Yes, so hot. I nearly threw my bra at the TV. Right on assessment.

Frankly, I thought they all kinda stunk!

But did you see the Irish chick's curly curly hair? How freakin cute! Maybe she started straightening it when she got into cheesy tattoos?

I watched last night, and I've been watching that clip all morning (yes, I'm bored at work...), and everytime I watch it again, I get the chills.
David Cook really rocks!

I TOTALLY agree with your comments on each of the singers. I wish that we lived closer so that we could watch together and make snarky remarks. It was great to see you the other day!

Hi, I usually just lurk, I love your blog. Great Idol recap. Thanks, for putting up the clip. David Cook is from my home town, and we went to school together. I still can't get over his talent. I hope he wins!
