Mondu-fest 2006

Yesterday, my mother-in-law spent most of the day making mondu (Korean dumplings). Delicious! It's quite a process: lots of chopping, draining, and mixing to start, then you have to fill the dumplings and boil them. I ate about a dozen for dinner. I was busy with the babies, but she actually got my father-in-law to help with the filling of the dumplings. Boiling water is an accomplishment for this man as far as the kitchen is concerned, so it was a hoot to see him doling out portions of mondu filling and fishing cooked mondu out of boiling water.

There were far more mondu than we could all eat in one night, but the good news is that they freeze well. You have to freeze them individually, then put them in a Ziploc bag. If you just throw them in a Ziploc without freezing them individually first, they become one big mondu clump. Here are pictures of our freezer with individual mondu nestled into every available corner:

I'm looking forward to eating mondu for many weeks to come. Hooray!

Never heard of it, but I am a big fan of stuff you don't have to cook yourself! :)

Take care
