Junk Food Junkie

I'm normally very careful about what I eat. Cookies and ice cream are my weaknesses, but are generally infrequently consumed treats. I eat a lot of fruit and vegetables and try to keep my fat intake down.

This is all well and good until I find myself stressed out. Then it all goes to hell. In the past few days, I've consumed vast quantities of chocolate, ice cream, and cookies. My veggie intake has been at an all-time low. Between the busy weekends, the guests, work, the hot water heater, and cancer, I just haven't had the energy to create healthy, nutritious meals for myself. I'm hoping the upcoming Weekend of Nothingness will help get me back on track. It's a vicious circle, really. I'm too stressed/tired to eat well, but not eating well makes me more stressed and tired. Must get off this hamster wheel. The babies and I both deserve better nutrition!

The crappy weather doesn't help my motivation about anything. And can anyone tell me why in early May the grocery store doesn't seem to have much in the way of reasonably priced fruit outside of apples, oranges, pears, and bananas? Am I high or is there usually more interesting stuff to choose from by this time of year?

It might help if I took the bowl of mini M&Ms off my desk, too . . . just a thought.

Well, you are in that stage of pregnancy when it's normal to be very hungry, and with twins I'm sure it's even worse. You should cut yourself some slack. Or go have a bowl of bibimbap. :)

I'm a big fan of the farmer's market. I also use convenience foods like bagged salads, baby carrots, and frozen peas and blueberries.

Hey a few bad days of eating isn't all bad, you will get back on track soon. You have a lot to deal with.

Take care and all the best.

I didn't get to check in yesterday, what fun to have so much to read today! In terms of fruit, at least bananas help with diarrhea?

Hope this weekend is restorative and relaxing. Sounds like you need it.

I'm astounded that you have eaten well to this point; I'm the queen of stress-eating myself, and have the physical results of a stressful 4 years to show for it.

As for the chemo delay; try not to worry--if the platelets don't start to rebound on their own after a few weeks off, then it might be time to *start* worrying, but it sounds like GH is in phenomenally good health for a cancer patient (esp. given his stage, diagnosis, or what I know of it). And chemo is pretty indiscriminate in what it destroys--including all of those usually fast-replacing cells of the digestive tract.

If you haven't already, you might ask your doctor about cod liver oil (yeccchhh...). If it wouldn't interfere with his treatments, it can really protect the digestive system from some of the ravages of chemo.

And, btw,(I always worry that you know all this and I am being obnoxious; but it's hard to turn off the "I can fix this; we can get through this" mode of the cancer wife, even now that I am cancer widow) there are some drugs that can boost platelets, and, of course, platelet tranfusions, if you haven't already had to go there. If GH has been doing all his recovery on his own to this point, then he is simply freakin' miraculous.

I'm reading a lot, but can't find the energy to post; sending you love always.

Do you know the farm in nearby town? We used to buy all our fruit and vegetables there. It's pricey, but the sheer magnitude and presentation was always enough to stimulate the appetite, for me.
Just a thought.
