Bike Photo

Maddie, Riley, and I attended Fiets of Parenthood, a family bike fair that is part of Pedalpalooza, this weekend at Clever Cycles. Being newbies to family cycling, we declined to participate in the family bike obstacle course, but we very much enjoyed the popsicles from Sol Pops, the bike decorating festivities, and the camraderie of being around a bunch of folks who have been getting around by bike a lot longer than we have.

Photographer Joel Smith was there documenting the event, and he got this shot of the twins and me enjoying our popsicles and showing off our bike. You'll still need to imagine exactly how it looks with us positioned to ride rather than enjoy a picnic, but this gives you an idea of our setup:

I've got more photos of us on bike (or at least of the kids sitting on the bike) in my camera, but I'm awful about downloading photos, not to mention that both my camera cable and my card reader are MIA. Someday.

I've been waiting to see a picture! It looks like so much fun, and you all look AWESOME.

What a great picture! I thought the bike had two separate little trailers. This is much more compact than I'd imagined. It looks fun.

I love the Oregonian styles!

@OTRgirl:

You are very generous in your use of the word "styles" and very appropriate in your use of the qualifier "Oregonian."

Can I just say, I love how much you love your bike!

Is it tippy with the kids loaded on?

@Anon:

Well, it's certainly tippy as compared to riding with nothing on the back. But it's not unsafe feeling. I ride them around on major streets and feel comfortable.

Awesome! I'm not sure if I should get one of those bikes, move to Portland, or both. It all just looks so wonderful!

Please post a photo of you and the kids on it! I am debating on buying one and am trying to get an actual feel for what it will look like!!
BTW-you guys look so cute!

That does look like a ton of fun.

How do you find riding safety in your area? We live in quite a small city with some bike lanes but I still find it hard to picture doing errands via bike due to concerns about getting run over. My husband does commute a few miles by bike, but as one person you're more maneuverable, and he's had a close call or two.

Also, you have a rockin' dimple, Snick!

Thank you for the picture. I wasn't picturing it correctly at all. Somehow I thought one of the kids was riding in front on your handlebars! Hauling that bike and those 2 kids around is definitely a workout. Glad you are having fun with it.

First of all ... almost every time I see a photo of a blogger I have been following for a long time, she is not nearly as attractive as the image I have been carrying in my mind. But not you! My, you are so very cute!

And second, the bike looks amazing. I, too, didn't have a good idea of the logistics of carrying the twins along. Looks like such fun!

And third ... the popsicle looks way too much like a microphone. I thought YOU were the reporter!

@MMQC: Both. Get the bike, move to Portland. I'm all in favor.

@HAF3: I'm hoping my dad will get a pic of us on the bike tomorrow. If so, I'll post for sure.

@Laurel: Portland is very bike friendly. If I'm on major roads w/the kids, I've been able to stick with ones that have bike lanes. Side streets are no problem, of course. I've been pleasantly surprised by how safe and secure I've felt, personally and in terms of the twins. As for the dimple, you're only seeing part of the story. I've got more on the other side of my face! I've actually never liked them; I think they make me look fat. But I'm trying to change my thinking.

@Anon: I was a little nervous about the way your comment started out, but thanks for what turned out to be a nice compliment :).

You guys are all so adorable! Plus, I just have to say that I love your use of the word "embiggen." I, too, would like to see a photo of all of you riding. We can take one for you next time we see you, if you want...

thanks for the picture! i'm just going to keep dreaming about when we move back to OR or another place that it is safe for ANYONE to bike and we can get a sweet setup like you have :-)

Love it, can't wait to see a pic with you all on it. You are really making me want to move to Portland!

Hey, I used to use a card reader until I realized that little slot in the front of laptop is a built-in card reader! Duh on me! Not sure if yours has one, but if it doesn't and you want one, I'd be happy to mail you mine that I don't need. You can email me your addy if you want it. deborah aka debi @gmail.com, take out the spaces.

Cute pictures! But, I definitely want to see it in action. I have four kiddos and would love to figure out a way for all of us to ride as a family. Do they both sit on the back seat?
