Schedules

I can't get used to the Oregon Public Broadcasting schedule. When I was on my way home from a preschool open house tonight at 7:15, Fresh Air was on. In Boston, it would have been On Point. I'm a total National Public Radio junkie, and it's surprisingly disconcerting not to know what will be on when. Thank goodness Morning Edition and All Things Considered remain my commuting standbys.

My work schedule is filling up fast. Tomorrow I have meetings at 8:30, 9:00, 10:00, and 11:00, and then I go home because we only work until noon on Fridays in the summer! Woo-woo!

My weekend schedule is looking good. Coffee with high-school friends on Saturday afternoon, two women I have not seen in years. My dad is coming up here for Father's Day, so I'll get to spend time on Sunday with him and my stepdad, which I don't think ever happened when I lived in Boston. Father's day evening will be spent having dinner with some friends, friends who understand that Father's day can be tough for me, even though in theory I know it's just a made-up Hallmark moneymaker.

I'm so glad that the move has proven to be so right for you and your family. And thanks for the reminder that I have no right to feel sorry for my family on Father's Day (Hallmark silliness or no). My husband's just overseas.

Ugh, made-up Hallmark holidays. Hope it's a good day, and enjoy the time spent with your dad and stepdad! That will be a treat, for sure.

Oh, Sadia, you can feel sorry for your family! Having a husband and father overseas doing dangerous work is no picnic. I'm sorry you can't all be together this Father's day.

Hallmark or not, I hope that you and M&R get through it okay. I will be thinking of you, from a long, long way away.

It's so nice to hear you sounding so consistently upbeat! The move has obviously been good for you and I hope that things continue to improve for you and your family.

As you know, father's day is supposed to be a non-issue at our house. Except that I get to bring home a bunch of made-for-daddy booty from daycare that N has meticulously made for ME.

I also get to hear what interesting conversations among the toddlers the daddy-booty-making has inspired. This year N, of course, shared with the group that she has no daddy, but that she has two mommies. Her other mommy? You guessed it: You! Congratulations, you've got triplets.

I stopped by to see how your move went. Glad that it sounds like it went well! The job sounds great and it must be nice to be close to family. Good luck with Father's day - glad that you can spend it with your Dad. This is the first Father's day since my Dad died, so I have been thinking about it a lot. :-( Yes, silly made-up holidays can still be tough! Have a nice longish weekend w/ your cuties.

I loved half-day Fridays too. You know what else I loved about my Boston job? 35-hour work-weeks. This 40 hours a week thing (and especially the be-at-work-at-8 thing) can BITE. MY. ASS.

Father's Days do get easier and less loaded. So glad you are settling in so seamlessly. That's when you know its right.

I'd love to know the cost around the POD. We are considering the move to Portlnd from ATL.

I'm glad you've settled in nicely. It must feel good to be home!

Amanda--

I paid just over $3K for my POD. That included delivery of the POD (an 8' x 8' x 16' container) to my house, pickup once it was packed, transportation from Boston to Portland, drop-off at my new house in Portland, and then final pickup. You have 30 days from the initial drop to complete the move, or you start paying around $200/month in storage. The charge can vary day to day based on fuel costs, season, etc., so take my costs with a grain of salt.

I will say that I've been totally happy with PODS customer service. They've been really helpful every step of the way.

Hope that helps,

Dear NPR Junkie-

I had a similar period of OPB related adjustment when i moved to PDX 4 years ago. Note that Fresh Air is not on Friday nights at 7pm, just 2pm as they air City Club on Fridays at 7.

Glad you made it safely! I love reading the new posts from our fair city!
