My "Winning Streak" Continues

Took the work I did last night in to drop off today at 11:00, as had been previously arranged with the coworker I needed to hand off the assignment to. When did he show up? 11:30. Grr.

Got home from that adventure to discover that the fridge had been left open. Not full, wide open, but enough for things in the door and at the front to feel less than perfectly chilled.

Went on Date #1 with Mr. Tango. Wait, no, that's not quite accurate. I tried to go on Date #1 with Mr. Tango. He stood me up. I was stood up! I was five minutes early; I waited outside the café where we'd agreed to meet for coffee until he was fifteen minutes late. Then I went in the café and stood in a long line to get a latte. Then I walked through the café and looked for him. By then, he was 30 minutes late. Stood up! Seriously. For the record, we had exchanged cell phone numbers, so there was no reason for him not to call me if he was simply running late or couldn't make it or what have you. I went home and had a great afternoon painting and goofing off with the kids and the friends who had been watching them while I tried to go on a date. Stood up! So not classy.

Now I have another three (if not more) hours of math proofreading to do. Fabulous. And both Maddie and Riley bit me this evening, plus Riley bit my friends' kid while we were at their house. Maddie and Riley both got immediate time outs and stern talkings-to after using their choppers for evil; hopefully the biting has been nipped in the bud (so to speak, ha!)

On the up side, Mr. Coffee left me a message this morning around 9:45 to let me know he was still not adjusted to the time change and had woken up super-early, wanting to call me, but had waited until a reasonable hour to actually do so. I appreciate the sentiment—he is nothing if not thoughtful—but clearly he has forgotten what it was like to have two year olds! We were up at 6:00. Still, it was nice to hear from him, and he's going to call later tonight after his kids are in bed so that we can catch up and figure out a plan for tomorrow night. Here's hoping that the weekend ends on a good note.

Sorry you're having such a lousy day. I can't believe he stood you up! Not classy at all.

May tomorrow be better.

Well, that's just crap. I hope you have a good night, and tomorrow is a whole lot better.

Hope proof-reading goes as quickly as possible and that your time talking with Mr. Coffee gives you warm fuzzies.. you deserve it after this week!

Well damn!

That happened to me once when I was internet dating. Except...the guy thought I stood HIM up since we went to different coffee shops to wait for each other. OOPS!

I hope your next few days are *much* better than the last few ones!!

As a single person, I would so send a note to Date Dumbass to reaffirm the fact in his mind that he is in fact a dumbass. I do not tolerate shit ever and in particular with dating.

Yuck on the standup, but I have to admit between the dancing and the econ professor I was already not optimistic for you.

As for Mr. Coffee's "delayed" call, it was only as an adult that I realized (too late, alas, as the rule in question appears to be a thing of the ancient past) that the rule my mother taught me -- never call anyone before 9 a.m. or after 9 p.m. was not, actually, to avoid waking them up. Rather, it was because we all deserve uninterrupted private time. I say, yay Mr. Coffee.

Ah. Stood up. Yeah, isn't that fun. Some of the guys look good on paper but are single for a reason.... heh.

Glad Mr. Coffee is at least still good. :)

Alex:

I'm totally with you on the delayed call from Mr. Coffee, although the way I wrote the post does not reflect that. If he'd called before I had my morning latte, we'd both have regretted it.

My mom taught me not to call anyone before 10 on weekends or after 10 any night of the week.

SO not cool to be stood up. No excuse for such rude behavior.

If I may, (and it may make you feel a tad better ;) I was once stood up at the movie theater some 18 (?) years ago by FIVE guy/gal friends. I went early and reserved FIVE seats. 'Pretty in Pink' was showing and it was PACKED. I have no idea how many people I told that I was sorry, the seats were reserved. Reserved, sorry.. Taken. Sorry friends coming...

And then the movie started. And I waited. And waited as I am sure scads of people sent daggers out to me, wasting 5 prime seats.

They never showed. Damn them for deciding so and so's house party was more appealing! I was mortified. Completely mortified.

But you are a grown up and understand that Mr. Tango has issues and you are far better off without the meet up.

Happy Thanksgiving from this Canadian reader :)

Oh My God!! That Pretty in Pink story made me forget whatever it was that I was going to say!! That was so damn sad!

Oh yea, Everything happens for a reason. The stand up had to happen to not cause any more stress in your life. What if he was really hot, you haven't seen Mr. Coffee in a couple of weeks...I don't know where I was going with this...That damn Pretty in Pink story!! It was so sad!

i have been lurking for months and months now. At least now that Tango stood you up, you don't have to wonder which guy you're more into or anything.

Sorry you wasted your time today on the non-date, but at least you won't be wasting any more time on him!

Hope your proofreading took no more than three hours. I hate taking work home. Ugh.

How rude, unless he's in a ditch somewhere, have you heard or had an apology since?

I loathe when kids bite too. Max has done it a few times, only to me as I recall. Was sooooo tempted to bite him back, but settled for the naughty step and a raised voice.

Best wishes for a better tomorrow.

Pity about the stand-up - but let him tango elsewhere, I say. His loss!
Complete sympathy on maths proofreading.
Maths + Proofreading = (the killer combination of) tedious + meticulous.
Terrible!

Do yourself a favour: don't give Mr. Tango a second chance. He blew it. Sorry to hear it, too.

I too was stood up once by someone I met online. But, it turned out to be the best thing that could have happened. When I got home that night (after being stood up) I went online and found a new person had just posted their profile on the dating site I was using. I sent him and email- and now we have been married for over five years and have two beautiful daughters!

Stood up?! How old is this guy? 22? That's so immature. Think of it this way: you probably saved yourself a torturous couple of hours had he shown up and you actually had to talk to him. Geesh...

I hear you on the biting. Vivi bit me on the collarbone the other day when I was trying to calm her down. I think she was shocked at how much it hurt me and hasn't done it since. Hopefully there won't be any repeat episodes for you guys!

Hope your weekend ends on a happier note!

When you say professor - big ego comes to mind. and Tango - who the heck does that these days - weirdo came to mind. A weirdo with a big ego - it sounds like he did you a favor by not turning up. Hey maybe you were in your casual gear - jeans and t-shirt and he drove past in his suit, saw you and kept going. He was looking for frock and heels...

Whitney said...

Snick, hmph on Mr. Tango. You could give US his cell phone number and we could use OUR chompers for evil!!!! he he he.
Ok, not a good idea. But it's a fun fantasy. Can you imagine the day he'd have if we got a hold of him? Bwahahahahahaha!

kabbage said...

Yeah, not good to be stood up, but did you give him any benefit of the doubt and, say, call him to see what was up? There is a chance that he messed up your phone number or the day or time, had something serious come up, etc.

Anyway, hope you have a great time with Mr. Coffee today!

Snickollet said...

kabbage--

No, I did not give him the benefit of the doubt. Even if he'd written my number down wrong or had some cell trouble or something, he could have called or e-mailed later in the day. Nothin'.

Of course, if I later find out he's hospitalized somewhere or some other dire situation has befallen him, I'll feel like a heel :).

i'm echoing alex's comment all the way around.

here's hoping today has been a better day (and the best is still yet to come)!

My mother was clearly more conservative than Alex and Snick's moms. I was told not to ever call before 10am on the weekends and no calls after 9pm in the evenings. I prefer to err on the side of caution, so this works for me.

Meanwhile, bah, good riddance to Mr. I'm-Just-Gonna-Stand-You-Up. First impressions are a VERY big thing, and he should know that by now.

Amy said...

Heather; my mom mandated the same. No calls before 10 am and NONE past 9pm. To do otherwise was disrespectful! I still swear by it (unless it has something to do with my morning carpool ;)

Anon... It WAS painful! Incredibly so as I had just decided I was over my nervous breakdown and ready to get social again (after many months) . I was devastated and went to a local lake after the movie to cry and berate myself. Dreadful times...

Very dreadful. But I survived :) Life goes on and all that...

Making a big L sign on my forehead as my kids have taught me. MR. NO SHOW is a LOSER!

Why? Because he obviously was too insecure to follow up on his plans to meet you. We must never take another persons actions personally as they are coming from a whole different ball game if you will..

He could have decided his hideous back hair was too much for you to tolerate (and shave!). Or his Body Odor was so putrid he could not subject you to the horror...

Or his breath stinks so much that all near and dear to him have given him the heads up :)

He decided he was not good enough for you and sloughed the date off..

His 11th ex wife decided it was his day to entertain the kids..

He had to go in for penile surgery. The kind that makes it bigger.

You have no idea what motivated this lose and nor do you care right? Keep on loving the kids and looking forward to a future where people treat you well, as you should be. (Dammit!)

Alan said...

Wow...remind me never to make plans with most of you! At least one or two of you were willing to temporarily extend him the benefit of the doubt, at least until you'd confirmed that he hadn't been hit by a bus. My mother taught me not to assume the worst of people (as well as when was okay to make a phone call).

(Not that it's not any fun to have someone no-show for a date, but you guys are HARSH! Sorry he didn't make it, Snick. I'll hope it was for a good reason...)

Oh Mr. Tango!

Forget Mr. Tango! I went out with six different guys from one of the major dating websites and had no luck. Very bad odds. You are lucky to have found a guy like Mr. Coffee who set your expectations so high! Have a great week.

I'm guessing he had some sort of huge disgusting oozing sore on both index fingers and thumbs so he couldn't dial or type to let you know he was going to an emergency room.

Feh on him.
