Alas, today I shall turn over a new leaf in meme-dom. I have been tagged by BrooklynGirl! And I shall respond right now, having read her post in which I was tagged a mere ten minutes ago. Please excuse any less-than-witty responses. I'm working on that whole "perfectionism" thing.

This one has been floating around for a while, so if you have not done it and you're so inclined, go for it. Give my track record, I'm the last person to put pressure on people to do memes.

I applaud you in your meme failure. About 99% of the time, meme entries are a total bore to read. I don't understand the popularity memes. Feels like some kind of silly middle school thing.
I grew up in Portland, but you've lived in a lot more interesting places than I have!
I'm a weirdo, but I actually kind of like memes, so I decided to do this one. :-)
Oh my goodness. If you wouldn't mind elaborating, how did you snag the translation gig in 1998? (I teach high school French in an International Baccalaureate program, but I would give about anything to work on something like the FIFA World Cup just once in my life.)
Linz--
I was lucky.
I was in grad school, getting my MA in translation/interpretation, and the summer of '98 was the summer between my two years of school. One of my profs was the head French simultaneous interpreter for the event, and he managed to get positions for me and some of my classmates.
Very, very lucky. It was an *incredible* experience.

I think the fourth you should at least have been Your Mom. :)
I did it! First meme I've ever posted on my blog. Thanks for getting my butt in gear!
Aw...I'm touched you did this meme.
I can't watch Sideways anymore--I cringe too much. Also, someone recently served me some much maligned Merlot, but served it chilled, and it was actually pretty delicious.
You used to live in Portland? Didn't know that (although why I would have is anybody's guess =)). So here's a shout-out from a fellow (albeit current) Portlandite. It's supposed to be in the 90s this weekend--heaven, and unheard of for Portland this spring/summer so far. =)
Hope you have a good weekend, and glad to hear you survived the twins' birthday okay.
The World Cup? I want to know more. Will buying you a cup of coffee induce the telling? I can't make potato salad. Not your mom's at any rate.
(Bad-bad blogger catching up on her reader today. Just got below 200 unread posts now. Scary)
