Conversation with Riley

[outside the local toy store; Riley spots some small ants marching down the sidewalk]

"This this?"
"Those are ants."
"Ants." [laughing] "Ants. Onetwothereefourfivesixsevennineten ants." [more laughing] "Touch it, ants?"
"Sure."
[ants are touched, more laughing]
"Funny funny ants."
"Yes, ants are pretty funny!"
[sudden mood change; Riley begins stomping on ants in earnest]
"Bye-bye, ants! Bye-bye ants!"

Dude, hand-waving is the usual complement to "Bye-bye."

Ry-man is killing me (along with the ants). It is true what ole Mr Linkletter said, Kids say the darndest things.
That's a funny story - try really hard to remember that next time he does something to make you want to drop kick your patience (sanity,religion...)out the window. :))

LMAO! The only good ant is a dead ant.

Yes, what is it with the toddlers being so destructive? My 26 month old slammed his hand down on a little bug walking by us yesterday as we were reading on the floor in the sunroom after exclaiming BUG!! I don't kill bugs, so he hasn't seen me do that.

decided to delurk today because this post just made me laugh. my own little man is at the stage where he waves bye-bye to everything, as well as counting out loud. luckily there has been no ant/bug stomping, just "oooh bug! ooh bug!"

Very funny!
It reminds me of that joke (warning: bad joke ahead...) about the Mama Tomato and her babies. They were lagging behind one day, and totally not listening, and it was driving the Mama nuts... so she stomped her foot and yelled, "Catch-up! Catch-up! Catch-up!!"
Oh, I know.. Ri-Man is much funnier!

my sister used to stomp on ants with her bare feet when she was little. At 30 years old, she hates to be reminded of this story.

DO you think he was trying to sing the "ants go marching one by one" song? So cute!

Oh my goodness that is too cute! Little boys are so wonderful especially when it comes to bugs and dirt. I can't keep mine away from either. Haha!

Forget buying that damn ant spray for the MILLIONS of pesky ants who think that just because I have some sand in the ground to help some of my plants that they can TAKE UP LIVING IN MY HOME.

Send me Ri-Man for a day. He can slay them for me!

Buddha, as big as he is, sees ants and flies and go apeshit, screaming, 'GO AWAYYYYYYYYYYY!!!'

LOL. Nature is brutal.

I am laughing because for the longest time, Alex also skipped "eight" when counting to ten.

As for bug killing, I have a friend whose son took a tissue and started slamming it against the wall saying "dammit! dammit!" pretending to kill bugs.

What a boy! That's too funny.

Laughing. I swear I had the same conversation yesterday with my girl.

John McCain will take my right to choose away.

Awww :) I'm so glad he's still infatuated with cool things like bugs and not yet afraid of them.

That's so funny! It reminds me of John chasing after pigeons, chanting, "Here, dinner, dinner, dinner!" Luckily, John never made good on that promise (that I know of), and it seems that Riley didn't want to eat the ants.

That. was. funny. funniest thing I've read all day. Can I hire him to say 'bye bye' to the ants in my backyard that are trying to sneak into my house?
