Controversy

I knew the John Edwards post would be controversial. I really enjoyed reading various takes on the issue. Perhaps I should post controversial opinions more often. Ideas?

Ha! One time I posted about SUVs and how they related to the War, and I couldn't believe how people came out of the woodwork to comment.
As for John Edwards, I think that your opinion was right on...
Anyway, I am too passive to offer any new controversial suggestions!
Congrats on the new job!

You can always go with one of the mainstays-- you know, breast vs. bottle, stay at home vs. work outside the home. Kidding.
Hope you are having a good week.

Yup, want to really stir the pot go for one of Julia's ideas.

Throw in CIO or not, soothers or thumbs, cloth or disposable, abortion rights or NOT ... I have seen blogs go insane over such issues ;) Mothers seem to love to bash those ones out.

Congrats on the new job!

Try television, IVF ethics, or crying it out, just to get you started.

First of all, Congrats on the new job. I hope you really like it!

Second, this isn't very controversial (although, I don't know...maybe it could be, depending on your experiences) but I always wanted to hear more about the Peace Corps days.

Me too! (want to hear more about Peace Corps days)

Wow. I'm naively surprised that that one was so controversial. I didn't even comment, because I thought your comments were right on--and ones I hadn't even really thought of. Because of your experiences, your opinions were especially poignant. Now I'll have to go back and read what people said.

Oh, I suggest not stirring the pot and encouraging moms to derail other moms. We already don't support one another enough.

And, congrats on your new job!!

Congratulations on the job! I haven't been around for a few days so missed the controversy on your John Edwards post, I didn't think I needed to put in my two cents. I was pleased to see that most people were very respectful in the way they presented their views, you obviously have intelligent and reasonable readers, lucky you.
Well, you touched on politics, other controversial topics usually revolve around religion, pro-life/pro-choice or racism.

Oh, I have a fun controversial topic: the best reality TV show! You'll have people screaming from the rafters: I don't watch reality TV! Me, neither. Well, except So You Think You Can Dance, because that show is genius.

As an aside, I believe John Edwards is going to withdraw from the race today, if the breaking news is to be believed.

I agree with those who said that if you really want to post something controversial, post about issues around motherhood and parenting. I'm always amazed at how freely people with offer their opinions on those topics!

Interesting... Mr. Edwards must have read your piece, because he announced his withdrawal from the race today... btw, I agree 100% with his choice and your post.

Some topics that are close to my usually non-political heart I'd love to hear discussed from new view points: the legalization of *medicinal* marijuana, No Child Left Behind, voting as a party, designer babies, prayers in school, and a universal healthcare system.

Plus, which candidate are you supporting? Who have you voted for in the past? Do you like voting with a party?

Perhaps John Edwards read your post, saw the error of his ways, and made the decision to drop out of the race! He's leaving today, sources say.

:-) I stayed out of that one... mainly because I had too many conflicting opinions in my own head.

Yes! Conflict can be interesting. Esp. because you seem to have the kind of readers who "respectfully" disagree with you or one another. Very satisfying to read such well thought out and compassionate responses.

Did you read the Globe today? Looks like he is going to drop out of the race today. Maybe he reads your blog ;)

Apparently you hold enormous sway over the political agenda in this country...nice work.

Another vote for Peace Corp posts! I always dreamed of doing it but never did.

PS. I actually thought it was great reading your opinion on the whole Edwards thing and ignored all the debate.

Well I guess he heard you...he quit.

(I agreed with you 100% BTW).

I agreed with you 100% and I felt a lot of relief for his wife. I think now she can rest and re-direct her energies on her "wellness. Also she has the knowledge that she gave it her best shot. But my visceral reaction when he originally decided to run after her the return of her cancer made me so disgusted. It is their personal choice to have run. But after working with pediatric cancer hospitals and Sloan Kettering; I just know that a full force campaign is not the best way to fight cancer.

I'm relieved for her. Good for you for saying what's on your mind. I admire that about you.
