Coming Down off the High

We had a great weekend. Nothing particularly blog-worthy, just time with friends, down time at home, and general good cheer from the twins overall.

That made this morning all the more irritating. I knew it was supposed to snow last night, and in fact it had already started by the time we headed home from having a playdate and dinner with a friend. I dutifully set my alarm for 6:00 a.m. so that I could shovel the stairs at our house before the babies got up. And then I dutifully got up at 6:00 and did the shoveling. By that time, the snow had turned to a chilly rain. Yuck, yuck, and yuck, but good to get the snow up before the rain made it into a hard, icy crust.

None of that was all that bad, but then when I took the kids to daycare, there was an accident at the end of the daycare's street that forced me to park a few blocks away and schlep the twins over the unshoveled walks, fearful of falling the whole time. Not pretty.

It's such a cliché to hate winter, but I hate winter. I really do. And there are months of this grossness left. Months! At least we leave for Oregon three weeks from today. That's something to be excited about. And our weekend was so nice that I'm itching to get out of work and go get the babes. I really miss them today. It's nice to be looking forward to that.

I hate winter too. So much that I am moving back to Florida. Not for at least a year though. :(

Man, what a way to start the day. Glad you stayed in good spirits through it all. It is funny how folks out here in CA dream of snowy wonderlands. If they only knew, hu?

I'm with you on the winter thing. It's gotten so annoying the older I get and the more that I have to do.

Sorry that your day started on such an annoying note.

I used to love the snow until we had kids....now, snow just means eventual melting which means ice. I am so afraid of falling while carrying the little one in the sling! We've already had one ice-related incident this winter--my toddler was walking next to me on the sidewalk when she slipped. Since we were holding hands, I managed to keep her from falling backwards all the way and cracking her head. Unfortunately, in the process her poor little elbow made a "pop!" and that was a trip to the ER--for "nursemaid's elbow". I felt like mother of the year, let me tell you.

Ugh. I hate winter.

We got that storm this weekend too, I know....I don't know if I can handle another four months of this snow, slush and freezing rain, yuck! That must have been so very hard to walk with the twins in the snow, I know strollers are awful in this weather, my sympathies. Wish we were all on a nice warm beach together.

Being a native Montanan who has lived in your deservedly beloved Oregon for almost 20 years now, I have to say that I still hate Oregon winters. With a passion. Especially with a toddler. In Montana, it would snow, and then you could go play in the snow (unless it was that awful icy snow you are describing). It has poured all weekend here and I am contemplating a trip to the mall, which I hate, just to let my kiddo run around. There is just not much fun to be had in Oregon rain (to those unfamiliar with our state, it tends to rain and be 40 degrees here, not delightful warm showers like other states have). Blecch.

Sorry about the morning crappiness. Hope you found an excuse. :)

I know I'm outnumbered, but I love winter. Maybe the fact that I live in a snowless world helps that, but I love it. I understand your hatred though. Sorry about the next few months...

Brutal. Thanks for the reminder. It's too easy to get wistful out here, but I know I've romanticized it. I still remember the 'joy' of scraping my car off 2-3 times a day, every day, for 4 months. I don't miss that at all. Compared to that, Baltimore was perfect. A couple good snows a year, but otherwise, not bad weather.

I actually like winter, and snow. But not "wintery mix" and slush and ice. The temperature went up here last night and our snow flakes durned into a driving rain. Now it's just dreary.

It's what I don't miss about "up there." Plus I lived on that ridiculous hill. You know the one.
