Cool Trick

The black bean and corn quesadilla that I put in front of the twins tonight was not met with much enthusiasm.

Until I called it pizza. Then they ate every bite. Think that will work with broccoli?

Oh yes- I have an 8 yr old who will eat anything - his current favorite food is the pickled ginger that comes with sushi - BUT his 4 year old brother is the exact OPPOSITE - will not eat anything that he is not "familiar" with. This kid would not eat chocolate soup (if there is such a thing?) because it was SOUP. I started calling quieadillas "mexican pizza" and he loves 'em!

Broccoli pizza is pretty good though :)

I tried your mac and cheese with brocoli tonight on my one year old who has been struggling with table food. He LOVED it. And I liked it too!! Thanks so much.

And monica? I've had chocolate soup and it was everything I thought it could be and more.

I called broccoli "trees" and cauliflower "white trees." They had great fun chopping down their trees and devouring them, with nary a complaint.

They are past playing with their food now, but they still like these vegetables.

love it! things they didn't include in the manual...

We call them dinosaur trees - I totally stole that from some guy on the radio, but it works. We also love liquid aminos on them, or dipping them in a combination of sesame oil, ses. seeds, and soy sauce. My boys are picky in that they hate mushiness, so that part is kind of tricky. Any kind of "pizza" is a hit at our house too.

Ooh, be very very careful with this one because it can work in reverse.

My Munchkin used to like smoothies, 'til I tried one made with yogurt, which she doesn't like.

Yeah, now she won't drink smoothies at all. No amount of assuring her that they are yogurt-free convinces her.

You could write a book on getting kids to eat (sneaky) healthy food...wait, has that been done?

I loved your guilty/proud list. I didn't see much to be ashamed of on the guilty side! Lots to be proud of though.

Hey, good trick! Wish I'd tried that when my son was still young enough to go for it. ;^) He does like plain quesadillas, but is suspicious of broccoli and black beans. I tend to let him have a lot of leeway with his food, however, because he's allergic to a couple of things.

It could work - but probably not by calling it pizza. My little brother liked mushrooms but not green peas. We got him to eat peas for a while by calling them green mushrooms. After a bit though, he decided he didn't like the green mushrooms.

We had a thing for awhile when my nephew was little called. "White Pepsi".

He had ONE drink of soda when he was like 3 and was HOOKED! Wanted nothing else. So I came up with this little diddy babysitting one day.

That is awesome. Anything that works - if they eat it once you can then say "but you ate it before" if they try and refuse it again. That worked with my brother for a number of years.
