Croc Query

Hello my Croc-wearing friends! The kids and I are loving our Crocs minus one important detail:

SWEATY FEET

Yes, all-caps sweaty. Ugh! Maddie has a particularly bad case of the sweats. Is there something that can be done about this other than wearing socks, which in summer seems so cruel? Please tell.

I'm afraid that I only wear mine at the hospital and we have to wear socks. I love them, but haven't ever tried without socks.

Baby or talcum powder inside the crocs and on your feet. Helps for a little while at least... ! I use the gold bond powder, but not sure if that's good for the little ones.

Hmmm... I haven't noticed any sweaty feet to be honest. Maybe there's a natural baby powder you can get at Whole Foods...? (Isn't baby powder, in fact, supposed to be bad for babies? Or is that just a silly rumor that I've naively bought into?) :(

Baby powder is bad because they breathe the talc into their lungs... you should use cornstarch instead. I've wanted some Crocs but I've worried about the whole sweaty foot aspect... I guess no Crocs for me...

antiperspirant on the soles of feet

This is the reason I don't own a pair of Crocs. I hate having hot, sweaty feet.

I've had sweaty feet all my life, even in winter. I've also had an allergic reaction to antiperspirant (itchy rash) and have only worn deoderant under my arms. Around the age of 40 it dawned on me that the soles of my feet have very different skin than under my arms. I tried antiperspirant on my feet and voila! no more sweaty feet. No itch, either. Problem solved.

I would suggest you check with your pediatrician, though, before you try this remedy on children so young.

I have found that I only have sweaty feet with my Crocs when it is true summer weather. The good thing is that you can fill a bucket with hot water and bleach and just soak them to get out stains and any lingering oder (not that your feet smell! I'm talking about me!)

I wear them indoors and all over the place in the cooler weather with no problem at all.

I wear on sailboats (that's what they were designed for) no matter what the weather.

Try Gold's Bond or something like that to see if it helps.

Now you can buy the really lowcut "footies" that you wouldn't be able to see with the CROCS. My three girls...4,8 and 11 all wear CROCS and very often with the lowcut "footies"...cute and practical. I love your blog...your honesty and strength are amazing.

Yeah, I have to admit that I haven't had my crocs on much this summer because I hate the way they feel without socks (my 3 year old insists on wearing his every day, though - go figure). I'm holding out for the fall, when I can wear them with socks again. Have you seen the croc flip flops for kids? Totally adorable. But one could spend one's entire salary outfitting one's kids (and self!) in crocs.

Burt's bees makes a talcum-free baby powder. Also Jason Cosmetics makes a tea tree oil, talcum free body powder.
I'd try one of those. I prefer the Jason's, myself.
Whole Foods (at least the one in Framingham) carries both. The big one on the fish brook parkway probably does, too.

I have this same problem with my Keens, and I've taken to wearing very low-cut sock with them. I look like a dork, but my feet are happy.

I'd go for the low-cut socks - they're easy to clean and will help keep the kids' tootsies both dry and clean(er) than with Crocs alone.

I end up washing Buddha's Crocs at least three times a week...but then again, I'm a germophobe at times.

Corn starch?

Yeah, I've noticed my feet sweat alot in my crocs, so I've put anti-persperent on them a couple times. I'm not sure if my twins' feet(s? lol) sweat in them -- either way, they don't seem bothered by them, so I'm gonna go the lazy route and not investigate, lol.

My kids don't wear crocs because my daughter tried them on and didn't care too much for them. That said, the solutions for sweaty feet from your commentors are awesome. Our summers are very mild but we still have the sweaty feet issue due to the fact that we're still wearing socks and regular shoes.

The beautiful thing about Crocs is that they are washable--a little soap and warm water, and they are as good as new. I don't have any myself, but my girls' Crocs have been washed numerous times.

To control the sweating, maybe cornstarch would help? I don't know, but it seems like a safe, kid-friendly, inexpensive way to go.

You can buy baby powder at any grocery store that's talc-free. It is, in fact, cornstarch with fragrance and sometimes aloe vera added to it. :-)

I think I have a solution to your child' sweaty feet, but not your Croc problem. There is a vendor by the name of Geox. It is a high quality shoe and they make sandals too. They have a patent sole that has tiny little holes big enough to let sweat vapors out, but small enough to not let water in. We sell them to kid's at our store, and parents LOVE them. I actually own a women's shoe by Geox and they are the only ones that don't smell.
Hope this helps!:)

There are actually some crocs shoes called the "Dawson", or "Gust" shoes, and they seem to do better with not sliding around when feet get sweaty. Both my daughters and I get really sweaty feet in the summer and even winter, but these styles of shoes seem to handle the sweat better than regular crocs. You could wear socks with them, but I hate wearing socks in the summer, so I just wear them alone, so do my daughters. After sweating gallons in them they kind of get a bit of a funky smell going on, but not to worry, they are just as washable as regular clogs crocs.
