Ahhhhhhh

Vermont was awesome. The kids did great in the car both on the way up and on the way back. They napped for the first half of the trip each way. Once they woke up, we stopped at the next rest stop, went to the bathroom/got clean diapers, had a snack/coffee, and then continued on. I was able to toss toys back fairly effectively and fussing was minimal.

Spending time with my friends was fantastic. They took such good care of us. The twins played in a sandbox for the first time, ate waffles and strawberry shortcake, slept long and hard both at night at at naps, got pulled around in a wagon, and practiced their walking. I drank a lot of wine after hours and basked in the comfort of good friends. It's nice to know that the kids travel so well (at least for now) and having our first solo trip behind us makes me more likely to take them up there (or on other such trips) again soon.

I'll post pictures once I can download them from my camera—battery's currently dead.

You rock. I didn't take my first solo trip with Bella until she was three!

I'm glad to hear that it went well, and that you found joy in the company of your friends.

Snick - glad it was a good trip. What a relief, right? Mine were great on the plane both directions to my wife's Dad's place this weekend. Our kids want to do well for us, given a bit of planning on our parts. Right?

So glad to hear it was a good weekend all round :) Good for you for having the courage to DO it. Hoping this trip gave you the confidence to know traveling is wonderful for the soul and the kids also enjoy.

But mostly glad you had a good time with old friends, so important.

You are a much stronger mom than I am! When my daughter was 11 months old I never would have taken her for a 5 hour drive in the car by myself, I wouldn't have even done it with my husband. I am glad you had a wonderful weekend. You deserved it!

Hooray! I'm so happy that the car trip was uneventful. I can recall my first few car trips with Buddha. I was apprehensive, but he held up like a trooper!

Being surrounded by your friends is priceless. Soak it up!

I feel like twins sometimes have this sixth sense when you need them to cooperate for sanity's sake. I did Boston to NY with the twins when they were almost one. They were perfect for the entire ride. Sigh. Of course, I couldn't get out of the car to pee because the double stroller was buried in the trunk. But what's a little discomfort when the twins are cooing in the backseat?

Glad the trip went well and you got to relax a bit.
