Rhetorical Questions from the Depths of My Mind

Why are so many bloggers also good photographers? There seems to be a correlation there, although not in my case.

Why do people slow down and obey the speed limit for a few miles after they see that a cop has pulled someone over (be it for speeding, or whatever)? Isn't that the best time to speed? While the cop is busy with someone else?

Why is it that my daughter's coughing last night kept me awake but didn't seem to disturb her slumber one bit? How can babies cough in their sleep like that?

Why do my best friend's chocolate-chip cookies always taste better than mine even though we use the same recipe?

Guilty as charged on the second one-- my husband has often pointed out that the cop is not going to leave the car he's pulled over to come after me. I guess it just reminds me that I could be next if there's more than one cop clocking!

I don't know how babies can sleep through coughing like that. I certainly can't (whether they're coughing or I am).

Actually, personal experience: I got pulled over for going ~75 mph in a 65 mph zone(best guess--I didn't see the cop until he was right behind me in traffic). The officer took my license and was examining it when another car whipped past us probably doing at least 90. The cop threw my license back at me and said a hurried "Don't do it again", jumped in his car, and caught the guy! After that I never sped past a traffic stop again.

In California where I live, there are often speed traps with three or four officers patrolling. There's a street in my neighborhood where four consecutive cross streets will each have a motorcycle cop waiting for folks to come speeding through. Slowing down once you spot one cop in the vicinity is definitely a good idea.

Maybe your friend's cookies taste better than yours because you didn't have to do any of the work to make them! Although, shouldn't yours taste better for that very reason? They're a reward after all that hard work. Hmmm...another question to be answered...

I, too, am a terrible photographer. You would think the 10,000 pictures I've taken of my twins so far would have improved my abilities. Oh, and I'm an avid food photographer, too. My food porn is definitely rated PG instead of trip x :)

On the NY Thruway, there are often pairs of cops...one about 1/2 mile past the other. So you're smart not to speed past a stopped cop!

shhhh don't tempt the sleep gods who are on your side by not waking the babes up.
ooooh I just posted on a celebrity blogger. screw american idol.....you're my idol.

I think it makes a difference how long you mix them and how gradually you add the flour.

Your second question made me laugh - I ask that ALL THE TIME when we pass a cop who has someone pulled over.

But I slow down anyway, mostly because everyone else does, and I have a rule - never be the fastest person on the road. Particularly if I'm passing a cop.

Though, come to think of it... I've broken that rule a lot lately... hrm.

Um... yeah, some cops come in pairs. Especially in tunnels, if you know what (where) I mean.

Cookies... Some ovens are just a bit hotter than others, and that can make the crunchy/chewy kind of difference.

1) I wish I knew the secret. I'm a terrible photographer as well, and my blog banner also stinks. I'm just one of the few that isn't a renaissance blogger, I guess.

2) Yes, the cop is busy with someone else, but for how long? And then he'll be behind you... [cue Jaws theme]

3) The Mommy Noise Sensitivity Threshold. It's low enough that you can be awakened by a spider crawling up the side of the baby monitor. I often find myself awake with absolutely no idea why until my son rolls over or coughs. He's still asleep (hopefully), but I'm awake and feeling like an idiot.

4) It's all in the temperature of the butter, I promise you.

Wheeee, I've been lurking for so long, finally something I can add my oh-so-insightful comments to. I love your blog!

By the way, when I said "my blog banner also stinks" I meant "my blog banner stinks as much as my photography." I just love your blog banner!

I HATE it when people slow down after seeing a cop with someone pulled over! He's alreday DONE with his job, people! Keep it moving!! ACK.

And, anytime I cook something, it NEVER tastes as good as when someone else makes it. Maybe it's because I'm know what went into it? I don't know why ... but I know exactly what you are talking about.

I often wonder how it feels to be a cop, driving along the interstate with everyone going exactly the speed limit all around you. You know he's got to hear all the hurled curses and whatnot. I HATE it when I end up behind one and have to drive the speed limit down the interstate. And I tend to speed up when I see one that's pulled someone over. It's my chance to pull out...

Your best friend puts some Snickollet love into her cookies. That's why they're so good. Don't wonder too much. Just find the milk and ask her to make some more.

Anything and everything tastes better when someone else makes it!

I wonder the same things, but not the cop one because I can't drive and don't notice that.

why do people always feel the need to answer rhetorical questions? ;)

Why do I love to see one rhetorical question answering yet another rhetorical question?

Why is it that I feel as though these questions point to the fact that you're a pure genius?

I will admit that unless the cop's standing next to my lane, I don't slow down one bit. Screw that.

Coughing: I hear ya! Buddha can sound like he's choking on bones but not wake up. Cripes.

As rebecca & chris said, food always seems to taste better if you're not the one who had to prepare it. And on the blogger/photographer issue, there's probably a selection bias in that those who like taking photos and take a lot of them are more likely to post them.

I think so many bloggers are awesome photographers as they have the creative streak. They can write, they can take gorgeous photos. I bet you would too given the chance..

At least I can answer one of these questions for you:
Writing and photography are both forms of creative expression. Therefor, if someone is good at one, its not such a stretch that they'd be good at the other. Its just a different medium for creative.

And I have no idea why your cookies don't taste as good...but that sure did make me want a cookie so they can't be that bad! :-)

Everything tastes better when you don't make it yourself, silly! Unless it tastes like crap and you have to eat it anyway just to be nice. :P

By the way, should have commented last time but didn't get a chance: I have seen your magic boobies, and they are neither old nor yucky.

Wink. ;P

I'm not a good photographer. I'm not a good blogger either, so I guess it works out.

I never slow down if the cops are busy with someone else.

Maggie never wakes either! Joe wakes me up to tell me that one of teh kids is coughing... I'm SLEEPING! If it bothers you so much, YOU go give them some cough syrup & plug in the humidifier!

Everything tastes better when someone else makes it.

Around here they usually work in twos or threes and let each other know when there's another speeder... I've also seen cops leave one speeder to nab one who's driving even faster...
